Tottenham supporters praised the character of their side after a dramatic night in Marseille saw them eventually emerge out of their tight Champions League group victorious - but bemoaned always being made to 'suffer'.

Antonio Conte watched on from the stands as his side toiled through the first period and were perhaps lucky to only be trailing by one goal at half-time. They emerged from the break a revitalised side and showed character to get back into the game.

Supporters, however, were made to suffer throughout the game - not least late in the second half when former Arsenal left-back Sead Kolasinac snuck in round the back to only put his header from point-blank range wide.

Tottenham punished Marseille for their missed chances when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg broke free to score with the last kick of the game. In a tight group in which each team went into the final round of fixtures with aspirations of qualifying, the goal ensured Conte's side finished top of the group while it consigned Marseille to last place.

Reacting to the game on social media, Tottenham supporters appeared a mix of delighted, relieved but also feeling a tinge of anguish towards their team for making them suffer again.

On the weekend Tottenham came from 2-0 down away at Bournemouth to win 3-2 with another goal at the death.
