AFL boss Gil McLachlan has pulled up South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas for referring to the sport's new one-state, 18-team mega weekend, as 'Magic Round', to avoid copyright issues from their NRL arch rivals.

The premier and AFL CEO were announcing the state's plan to host a currently unnamed blockbuster round five, which will feature all teams in and around Adelaide.

Mr Malinauskas, who was elected in 2022, kept calling the collaborated initiative 'Magic Round' in Friday's press conference.

'All the funds that we've allocated towards the Magic Round … or the AFL's 24th round, name to be determined,' the premier said.

'It's not, it's not, it's not Magic Round,' McLachlan replied.

'It's like, whatever it is going to be … we need your names, has anyone got anything off the top of their head they think is a good name?'
