If Socceroos legend Tim Cahill plans on speaking out against Qatar's human rights record, same-sex legislation or the thousands of migrant workers who died to make the FIFA World Cup possible, he is leaving his run a bit late.

The Qatar Aspire Academy chief sports officer and 2022 ambassador for the World Cup in the Gulf state has come under fire for spruiking the country despite its atrocious track record on human rights.

That included former Socceroo and current analyst Craig Foster urging him and fellow ambassador David Beckham to speak out.

'I would love for Tim Cahill to have spoken out and to say something now - and I hope that he does so,' Foster told Daily Mail Australia.

'From Tim's perspective, he really has said nothing, whether it's the migrant workers, the LGBTI community, women's rights and other things.'

The former Everton striker posted plenty of photos and videos of the World Cup opening ceremony from some of the best seats in the house overnight, but nothing beyond that.
