USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter was in a bullish mood prior to the US' opening World Cup game against Wales in Group B, insisting that 'now is the time' for his young side to make an impact and show they can compete at the highest level.
Asked what words of wisdom he gave to his men, 20 years on from making his own debut for the Star and Stripes at the 1994 World Cup in the US, the 49-year-old said: 'I just talked to them about what the game is going to be like. I think that's important to understand.'
'Every play is going to have an impact on the game. We've got to be focused on each and every single moment.'
Pressed on whether his group were mentally and physically ready to take on the pressure in Doha, Berhalter insisted 'the team is ready.'
'There's no bigger stage than the World Cup and if we want to make the impact we talked about, now is the time,' he added.
