Cristiano Ronaldo's goals are set to cost Manchester United a whopping £1.2million each, after the Portuguese superstar agreed to leave the club by mutual consent.

In a 67-word statement on their website, the Red Devils announced that they had parted ways with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in the wake of his bombshell interview criticising the club last week.

As Sportsmail reported earlier, United have not paid Ronaldo any compensation for the remaining seven months of his £500,000-a-week contract - in what is likely an attempt to recoup some of the finances spent on his huge deal.

Ronaldo joined the Red Devils from Juventus in summer 2021 and put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Old Trafford - worth £500k-a-week.

Having been at the club for well over a year, before leaving via mutual consent on Tuesday, the 37-year-old is set to walk away with a massive £32million from the deal.

This means the club have shelled out just under £1.2million for every goal scored by the Portuguese star in his second tenure at the club.

Ronaldo notched 27 goals in all competitions in his year-and-a-half back at United with the majority of those coming before Erik ten Hag's summer arrival.

The former Ajax coach was one of Ronaldo's main talking points in his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan which set the wheels in motion for his departure.
