Those who believe in the 'Drake curse,' now have a new piece of evidence to point to as proof the curse does in fact exist following Canada's 1-0 loss to Belgium.

The Canadian national team played their World Cup opener against Belgium Wednesday in Group F but suffered an agonizing defeat despite dominating spells of the game. 

Promising left back Alphonso Davies could have handed Canada the opening goal - and its first-ever at a World Cup - with a penalty kick in the 10th minute of the game but he saw it saved by goalkeeper Thibault Courtois.

With the result, Canada became the first World Cup team since 1978 to attempt at least 20 shots and have one penalty kick and still not score a goal. 

However, some have claimed the source of the Maple Leafs' despair is none other than Canadian artist Drake.  

The 'Drake curse' has shown itself multiple times over the course of various high profile sporting events after a team is publicly backed by the Canadian rapper.
