Footage filmed from the team's journey to the stadium showed traffic slowing down with the police car involved in the escort receiving a bump from behind from the Swiss team bus. Fears that injuries had been suffered among the players and staff on board were swiftly dismissed as the full squad arrived on time at Stadium 974 for their Group G clash with Brazil. The low speed of the bus meant there was little chance of injury to any player, but it is still an incident that could shake a few up ahead of the game. Each competing team is afforded a full police escort as a crucial security measure for each game, but Switzerland's players and staff might have been cursing the very thing designed to keep them safe. The lack of injury to any player means it can be brushed off as merely an unusual incident. Facing the favourites for the tournament, Brazil, in their second game Switzerland needed the best preparation they could get for the game that will see the winner qualify for the last 16. Both sides won their opening games, with Switzerland beating Cameroon 1-0 thanks to a goal from Breel Embolo while Brazil defeated a staunch Serbia side 2-0 with two goals from Richarlison, one of which was a spectacular scissor kick effort. The Swiss were knocked out of the 2018 World Cup at the last 16 stage but have been tipped as a potential surprise package in Qatar, and they delivered on that tag in their opener, dominating the African side and should have won by more.
