sport news Portugal 2-0 Uruguay PLAYER RATINGS: Bruno Fernandes steals the show from ... trends now
Portugal became the third team through to the last-16 of the World Cup after seeing off Uruguay 2-0 thanks to a Bruno Fernandes double.
Despite Cristiano Ronaldo's claims to have opened the scoring, it was Fernandes who was credited with Portugal's goals and they helped Fernando Santos's side record back-to-back wins to join Brazil and France in the knock-out stages.
Here is how both sides rated at the Lusail Stadium.
Bruno Fernandes scored twice as Portugal sealed a last-16 spot after beating Uruguay
Diogo Costa - Had his nervy moments, including a clearance that bounced off a forward and off target but he was otherwise composed and stood strong during a period of strong Uruguay pressure in the second half. 7.5
Joao Cancelo - Busy up and down the right flank and while he offered little from an attacking perspective, Uruguay found little joy in trying to attack his side of the pitch. 7
Ruben Dias - Had to provide the pace in the Portugal defence and while being outdone by Bentancur's run in the first half he otherwise had a solid game. 7
Pepe - Still going strong as he approaches his 40th birthday and while his excellent showing was aided by facing an ageing attack, he still looks top class in the defence. 7
Despite approaching 40 years old, Pepe put in a solid display at centre-back for Portugal
Nuno Mendes - Came into the team in place of Raphael Guerreiro but didn't even make it to the end of the first half after being forced off injured. His dejected reaction suggested his World Cup may be all over. 6
Bernardo Silva - Appeared to have a quiet game but the Manchester City star often had a clever ball in him to keep Portugal's attacks ticking over. 7
Ruben Neves - Not as involved as his team-mates despite playing in central midfield. Was booked for a poor challenge before then getting hit by a robust tackle in the second half shortly before his departure. 6.5
William Carvalho - Like Neves couldn't really get involved in the game but should have scored in the first half with a volley following Ronaldo's shoulder pass. 6.5
Bruno Fernandes - Even if you don't credit him with the first goal he could still have had a hat-trick having hit the post and forced an excellent save with a volley. Looked close to his Manchester United best. 8
Cristiano Ronaldo - Outrageous to try and claim the opening goal but he looked sharp and the tasty shoulder pass in the first half showed he still has the skill to shine. 6.5
Cristiano Ronaldo showed some bright moments before departing as a substitute late on
Joao Felix - The quietest of Portugal's forwards but even he had his moments, running through in the first half
