Mexico beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 in their final Group C game in Qatar but the result was not enough to see El Tri leapfrog Poland and clinch a last-16 spot.

Orbelin Pineda, Hirving Lozano and standout Luis Chavez put in an intense and energetic performance but ultimately it came too late for Tata Martino's men as they exited the World Cup at the group stage for the first time in 44 years.

Martin tapped in to clinch Mexico's first goal of the game - and the tournament - while Chavez's sensational free kick gave fans a glimmer of hope but Salem Al-Dawsari beat a barely-tested Guillermo Ochoa in stoppage time to break Mexican hearts.

Here, Sportsmail rates and slates players from both teams after the encounter at the Lusail Stadium.
