Canada's whirlwind time at the World Cup is officially over following a 2-1 loss to Morocco.

The Atlas Lions topped the group thanks to a draw between Belgium and Croatia -- who advance in second place in Group F.

Canada were on the back foot early after goalkeeper Milan Borjan's grave error presented Hakim Ziyech with a gift. They rallied after falling 2-0 behind but could not complete the comeback.

Here, Sportsmail's Patrick Djordjevic rates the players who starred and stuttered for both sides.

Canada

Milan Borjan - 1

Produced his very own Loris Karius moment with a horrendous touch which turned out to be a pass straight to Ziyech who duly accepted the gift.

Partially to blame for the second goal as well, it just wasn't a great day for Borjan.

Alistair Johnston - 4

Failed to exude much of the excitement he showed during the opener against Belgium.

Steven Vitoria - 4

Struggled to deal with En-Nesyri for his goal. As the elder statesman of the rearguard, failed to get the defense adequately organized to deal with the guile of Morocco's attackers.

Kamal Miller - 3

Beaten all ends up by En-Nesyri for the second goal. Looked completely at sea in that moment and failed to flatter throughout.

Sam Adekugbe - 5

Had a hard time coping with the trickery and movement of the Moroccan frontline but showed great courage to continually bomb forward.

His low cross caused Aguerd to throw out a leg, resulting in the Canada goal. Fortunate not to be punished after the free kick he gave away resulted in an offside goal.

Alphonso Davies - 5

Looked frustrated as he largely played through the middle of the park but was frankly unable to impose himself to the same degree as vs. Belgium.

Battled fiercely but to no avail. The lack of similar talent around him was the biggest roadblock.

Jonathan Osorio - 4

Provided very little through the middle of the park for the Canadian side in what was a poor showing. Subbed off in the 65th minute.

Mark-Anthony Kaye - 4

Equally invisible as his midfield partner Osario. Provided little security when the game was at its hottest in the first half.

Tajon Buchanan - 4

His electricity was a bright spot for Canada earlier in the tournament but he could not find the space or creativity to trouble the Moroccans.

Came close to getting a meaningful touch on a Larin cross but close wasn't good enough.

Cyle Larin - 4

Offered something down the right in a powerful run and cross for Buchanan but had little impact otherwise. Perhaps should be frustrated he didn't get a greater chance throughout the World Cup.

Junior Hoilett - 5

Tried to offer some outlet for the Canadians but failed to deliver anything truly meaningful.

Atiba Hutchinson (60') - 7

Came close to scoring, and was unfortunate not to as the strike hit the underside of the bar and bounced out.

Ismael Kone (60') - 5

A nice moment
