A visibly heartbroken Timothy Weah embraced United States men's national team coach Gregg Berhalter on the pitch after being eliminated from the World Cup by Holland on Saturday in Doha, Qatar.

Weah was pulled in the second half as Team USA struggled to generate offense in the 3-1 loss. The son of former Ballon d'Or winner and Liberian President, George Weah, scored Team USA's first goal of the group stage against Wales, but was rendered ineffective against the Dutch defense.

Berhalter was seen embracing several players, including team captain Tyler Adams, who later told Fox Sports that the coach simply told him to keep his 'head up.'

Weah nearly tied the game at 1-1 in the 42nd minute when he launched a 25-yard shot on net, forcing Dutch keeper Andries Noppert to make a diving stop.

Unfortunately for the US, Daley Blind would score before halftime to give Holland a 2-0 lead following Memphis Depay's first goal of the match.

Second-half substitute Haji Wright cut the US deficit to 2-1 in the 76th minute when Christian Pulisic's cross hit his trailing foot and popped over Noppert and into the net. But Dumfries, who assisted on the first two goals, scored on a volley in the 81st.

'When you play a team with so much quality like that and you give them three, four chances, they're going to put three or four away,' United States captain Tyler Adams said. 'We can show that we can hang with some of the best teams in the world, some of the best players in world, and that's a lot of progress for U.S. soccer. We're moving in the right direction, for sure, but we need to keep pushing, because we're not there yet. But we're close.'
