USA defender Walker Zimmerman insisted he came back with a vengeance to represent his country at the World Cup after being left out of Gregg Berhalter's training camp roster last year.
The USMNT were eliminated from the World Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Holland but, despite the exit, Zimmerman insisted it had still been a 'honor' to represent his country on soccer's global stage.
However, he very nearly missed out on that privilege when he was left off the roster for a training camp in 2021 before eventually being summoned to replace Tim Ream.

Zimmerman established himself as a mainstay of the USA during that camp and ahead of the final squad announcement for the World Cup there was absolutely no doubt he would be on the plane to Qatar.
Following the USA's World Cup heartbreak, Zimmerman claimed he was happy for last year's snub as it spurred him on.
