Polarising Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has declared Novak Djokovic as the man to beat at the Aussie Open in 2023 and says tennis fans are 'very lucky' to have the controversial Serbian back on our shores.

The former world No.1 was sensationally deported prior to the 2022 Australian Open after being held in detention over his vaccination status.

He was was originally banned from entering the country again until 2025 but that decision has been reversed by the Australian Government.

That means that not only will the 21-time grand slam winner contest the Australian Open, but also the Adelaide International

While Kyrgios was vanquished by the Serbian in the Wimbledon final this year and has been involved in a long-running war of words with the 10-time Aussie Open champion, he has welcomed him back to the country with open arms.

'He's healthy, ready to play and put on a show for our fans and for our country - we're very lucky to have him,' Kyrgios said.

'Look, he's the best player in the world in my opinion,' said Kyrgios of the man who will end the year as the No.5.

'I'm glad we're welcoming him back to come in and show what a great tennis player he is.
