FIFA’s new ‘video game’ camera angle for penalty shootouts is here to stay, despite supporters saying they preferred the classic side-on view.

Broadcasters have responded well to the new approach at this World Cup, which involves using a Spidercam behind the penalty taker, as seen yesterday when Croatia dramatically beat Brazil.

FIFA’s rationale for changing the angle was they wanted to give viewers an immersive experience, a perspective as close to the penalty taker’s as possible.
