The double recruitment takes the number of English-qualified overseas players in this winter’s competition, which starts on Tuesday, to 13. Reigning champions Perth recently terminated the contract of Laurie Evans, the player of last season’s final, following a positive drugs test for traces of a banned substance while Phil Salt withdrew with a shoulder injury. Yorkshire batter Adam Lyth will be joining Perth Scorchers ahead of the Big Bash League starting on Tuesday Middlesex’s prolific white-ball run getter Stevie Eskinazi has also been recruited by the BBL champions Ex-England international Lyth, 35, therefore features in the BBL for the first time, along with Eskinazi, who grew up in Western Australia before throwing in his lot with England. Eskinazi, who has averaged 40 in the Vitality Blast over the past three seasons, struck four hundreds in the 2022 Royal London Cup after surprisingly being overlooked in the Hundred. The pair join Sussex fast bowler Tymal Mills at Australia’s most successful T20 outfit.
