The event staff at AAMI Park have reportedly complained of 'extremely poor' security, with stewards 'more interested' in watching the game than policing the crowd.

According to the Herald Sun, a number of workers from Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust (MOPT) believe the staff at the venue aren't trained to deal with fans intent on causing disruptions.

Last month, the Melbourne derby had to be abandoned after Melbourne Victory fans invaded pitch and attacked City goalkeeper Tom Glover.

MOPT manages the stadium and uses in-house guards and event staff, while the majority of security staff at AAMI Park are contracted through MSS security.

And the latter has come under scrutiny failing to provide adequate training to its policing staff.

'The bad behaviour [...] has been a direct result of MSS Security guards not being able to manage these hooligans who are lighting flares and starting fights,' a source told the Herald Sun.

'They are more interested in watching the game than actually doing their job.
