CHRIS SUTTON: Gianluca Vialli was the only manager I felt I let down in my career - he was a great player and a total gentleman who helped me score one of the best goals of my career

There is only one manager I feel I let down in my career, and that was Gianluca Vialli, who passed away on Friday at the age of 58.

It was Gianluca who convinced Chelsea to sign me from Blackburn Rovers. They paid £10million and I signed a six-year contract, with me and Gianluca posing for pictures together at Stamford Bridge, each holding one end of a scarf.

That was July 5, 1999 — the first day we had met in person — and immediately this was a manager whose faith I wanted to repay with mountains of goals.
