In addition to Boyer, safeties coach Steve Gregory and outside linebacker coach Ty McKenzie were also given pink slips by the team. Both Gregory and McKenzie were hired to the Dolphins this past season - with Boyer involved in both of their hirings. Boyer has been the defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. He was hired by former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores - who was fired at the end of last season and has since filed a lawsuit against the Dolphins alleging racial discrimination. The Dolphins defensive unit finished 18th in the league in total yards and was the ninth worst scoring defense in the NFL.
