DOMINIC KING: There were shades of Eden Hazard in Mykhailo Mudryk's debut cameo for Chelsea at Anfield… it's going to take time for the Ukrainian winger to adjust but the potential to go far is there for all to see

Cesar Azpilicueta raised his eyes and moved his feet to escape as quickly as the man about whom he was taking questions.

Mykhailo Mudryk and his twinkle toes had, thankfully, provided a talking point from a clash between Liverpool and Chelsea that bore little resemblance to any of the past titanic battles these sides have contested — a day where confidence was notably absent.

Belief, however, is not something that Mudryk lacks. As soon as he was introduced at Anfield, the new £88million signing was feinting and shimmying in an attempt to wreak havoc, twisting and dancing to evade tackles. It was possible, in this cameo, to see shades of Eden Hazard.

When asked if he could see similarities between the old and the new, Azpilicueta — this bridge between Stamford Bridge eras —gave a telling smile and refused to put any undue pressure on a 22-year-old who had only been training with the squad for a couple of days.

Comparisons might have been off the agenda but one thing Azpilicueta was not afraid to do was champion the talents of the flaxen-haired Ukrainian, the enthusiasm for what he had seen at Cobham and, fleetingly, on Merseyside
