Josh Mansour rejected the chance to run for office in March's state election, after being approached to run for the NSW Liberal Party.
A representative of Dom Perrottet's government approached Mansour, 32, to ask whether he would be interested in running against Labor leader Chris Minns in the marginal seat of Kogarah.
Minns is hotly tipped to succeed Perrottet but Mansour was seemingly backed by the Liberals to mount a serious challenge to the seasoned politician.
