Novak Djokovic won his 10th Australian Open title and equalled Rafael Nadal's record of 22 grand slam singles titles - and the Serbian ace's team was so sure of victory they had a jacket prepared especially for the occasion.

The 35 year-old, detained and deported over visa issues relating to his unvaccinated status last January, defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 7-6 7-6 in two hours and 56 minutes inside a rowdy Rod Laver Arena on Sunday night.

Djokovic wept uncontrollably afterwards in his player's box, and then donned a stylish jacket with the number 22 printed on it for the trophy ceremony.

The jacket didn't escape the notice of fans and players, with Aussie Nick Kyrgios describing it as 'elite energy' on Twitter.

It reminded others of Roger Federer's famous '15 jacket' that he wore after he won his 15th Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2009.

The Serb's team also got involved in the celebration by putting on t-shirts with the number 10 on them - in honour of his 10th Australian Open title.

'To be honest, maybe people won't believe me, but I had no clue about this jacket,' Djokovic told Eurosport afterwards.

'I actually took the other jacket to the ceremony and then my team told me to put this one on —nice of them.'

Saying it's impossible to compare eras, Djokovic humbly declined to declare himself the tennis GOAT.

His numbers may show otherwise, but the super Serb is happy enough just to be recognised among the legends of the game, not necessarily THE greatest of all time.

'No, no, look, first I have to say that, I am so honoured and privileged to be in this
