Antonio pulls his socks up and earns forgiveness after eyeing January exit
When Michail Antonio emerged for the start of this match, his shorts were twisted tight, not unlike John Barnes back in the day. A ploy to frighten the opposition with those muscular thighs of his, perhaps.
Yet it is his socks that West Ham's manager David Moyes wants his 32-year-old striker to pull up after his recent revelation. Antonio used his podcast to say he was in talks with rival clubs ahead of January's deadline day.
That was news to Moyes, who would prefer he focuses on working hard for his current employers. But if anyone has earned West Ham's forgiveness for a few misguided comments, it's Antonio, who has been a club servant since 2015.
He started here and there was no sulking – only a proper performance as he was involved in the build-up to Jarrod Bowen's opener before later heading home West Ham's second goal. Antonio isn't going anywhere in this window.
Not while fellow strikers Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings are injured. His team needs him. Staying isn't all bad, Antonio – you're only two-and-a-half years from a testimonial!
