Former Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan has jokingly asked when Liverpool's belated 2013-14 title parade might be after the announcement of Manchester City being charged with over 100 alleged financial rule breaches.

The Premier League announced on Monday morning that they had charged City with financial rule breaches related to the period from 2009-10 to 2017-18, with the club also facing charges for the period from 2018-19 inclusive to the present day for failing to cooperate with the league's investigation. They are facing charges for 113 breaches in total.

The case will now be referred to the Premier League's - independent - judicial panel made up of various retired or sitting judges, barristers and football administrators who will adjudicate on the alleged rule breaches.

The news has led many to speculate on what exactly will happen to City, with it being suggested that the club's punishment could be anything as severe as expulsion from the league - with retrospective points deductions for the seasons in which they are alleged to have broken the rules also mooted.

Posting on social media, Flanagan jokingly tweeted: 'When is our open top bus parade? 13/14,' alongside an emoji of a medal.

Liverpool famously came within a whisker of ending their league title drought, having led the league with just three games remaining before a defeat at home to Chelsea and a draw away at Crystal Palace cost them the title - with Manuel Pellegrini's City side claiming the crown by two points.

It was City's second Premier League title in three years, having been taken over by Abu Dhabi in September 2008.

The season is perhaps most notable for Steven Gerrard slipping against Chelsea at Anfield, allowing Demba Ba in to score for the visitors.
