His dad played in two European semi-finals, now George Mills is looking to make his own mark on the continental stage.

Danny Mills reached the last four of both the UEFA Cup and Champions League with Leeds in consecutive years at the turn of the millennium. The first of those ties came against Galatasaray in 2000 and is remembered for the tragic murder of two Whites fans in Istanbul.

Now, more than two decades on, the ex-England defender is returning to the Turkish city to watch his son - born just a year before that fateful match - in action in the European Indoor Championships.

'My dad comes to all the big events,' says 23-year-old Mills, who will run for Great Britain in the 1500 metres heats on Thursday night. 'He is great to help reflect on things and talk things through.

'He has a very logical brain. I train away from the UK now, so I don't see him as much, but I regularly talk to him on the phone before or after races.

'I used to watch videos of him all of the time as a kid. Not so much anymore, but he occasionally gets a few clips out!

'Football was my first love. I had a couple of academy trials, but it's a very hard sport to make it in. Fortunately, I found running and I wouldn't change it for the world.'

Mills' younger brother Stanley has made it in football, however, and has featured in Everton's first team this season, coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup at Fleetwood for his debut last August.

'I go and watch him now and I think, "Bloody hell",' admits Mills. 'He can play right wing, centre mid, left wing. He is a good player.

'It is really cool for us to be doing it together. I give him stick saying they don't train very hard, and then he just says, "But
