sport news New York Giants 'are set to release Kenny Golladay' trends now New York Giants 'are set to release Kenny Golladay after completing just two of the four years of his $72m deal with team saving $6.7m in salary cap space by avoiding $21.4m hit in 2023' By Tyrell Feaster For Dailymail.Com Published: 23:54 GMT, 28 February 2023 | Updated: 23:54 GMT, 28 February 2023 Viewcomments The New York Giants are reportedly set to release wide receiver Kenny Golladay on March 15 after two tumultuous seasons that went far from according to plan. By waiting until the first day of the new league year on March 15 the Giants will save $6.7million in salary cap space by avoiding Golladay's $21.4m cap charge, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. They will still be faced with a $14.9m dead cap penalty that may be stretched out over the course of two seasons if they designate him as a post-June 1 cut. The four-year deal worth $72m, with $40m in guaranteed money that Golladay signed as a free agent in 2021 is likely to go down as one of the worst signings in Giants history. Golladay appeared in 26 of a possible 34 regular season games for the Giants and only started in 18 of those games over the course of two seasons. New York Giants set to release wide receiver Kenny Golladay on March 15 to save cap space Golladay was two years into a four-year $72million deal and was set to have $21.4m cap charge After being signed to be the Giants No. 1 receiver he was only targeted 93 times and caught only 43 passes for 602 yards and one touchdown. The one touchdown came at the end of a game in the regular season finale after Giants coach Brian Daboll put his backups in to finish out the game. Before his nightmarish two seasons with the Giants, Golladay had led the NFL with 11 touchdowns in 2019 for the Lions and put together back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Many on lookers including New York had expected Golladay to continue his ascension into one of the leagues primary redzone targets, but it appears as if they will now be scouring the market for a new primary target at wide out. Before turning their attention to finding Golladay's replacement New York will be focused on retaining quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley. ESPN reported earlier on Tuesday that the Giants are 'cautiously optimistic' they can keep both Jones and Barkley. The expectation is that if the Giants are able to secure an extension for one of the two players the other will receive the franchise tag, with Jones being the team's priority.
