What has already been a remarkable 2023 for Welsh rugby could be set for another turn with a merger between the Ospreys and English club Ealing being strongly considered by bosses.
Championship side Ealing were last month told for the second straight year they would not be promoted to the Gallagher Premiership because they did not meet RFU criteria.
Yet another rejection prompted a major rethink at the London-based Trailfinders, who have been exploring the possibility of competing in the United Rugby Championship instead.
Doing so and merging with Welsh region Ospreys would be a more than complicated process involving a number of logistical and contractual issues.
