Spanish hurdler Enrique Llopis was in hospital on Sunday night after a horror fall in the 60 metres hurdles final at the European Indoor Championships.

The 22-year-old, who was a medal contender in the race, lay motionless on the track after he crashed into the final hurdle and smashed his head on the floor.

Medics quickly rushed to the aid of Llopis, who was shielded from the view of spectators by a white tent.
