Tottenham's faint hopes of ending their long wait for silverware this season were extinguished on Wednesday night as they were dumped out of the Champions League by AC Milan.

After losing the first leg 1-0 at the San Siro, Spurs knew they needed to score to have any chance of progressing, but they rarely looked like doing so as the Italian giants secured the goalless draw they needed to move into the quarter-finals.

Sportsmail has rated the players from both sides following a miserable evening for Antonio Conte's men.

Tottenham

Fraser Forster - Tottenham's best player on the night which speaks for itself. Made a couple of sharp stops after the break to keep a clean sheet, but unfortunately for Spurs they rarely looked like scoring at the other end. 8

Cristian Romero - Tottenham's best defender but his discipline has become a major issue. Sent off for two poor tackles, and his red card signalled the end of Spurs' chances of getting back into the tie. 5

Clement Lenglet - Slotted into the centre of the back three due to Eric Dier being suspended. Did not do a lot wrong, and held his own against Olivier Giroud. 6

Ben Davies - A steady performance but Tottenham were unable to get anything going down their left with Ivan Perisic and Heung-min Son proving ineffective. 6

Emerson Royal - Has certainly made improvements to his game over the past month, but his final ball is still found wanting at times. Kept going until the end. 6.5

Oliver Skipp - Another busy performance in the middle of the park from a player who has been one of Tottenham's bright sparks since coming in for the injured Rodrigo Bentancur. 6.5

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - Tried to get his team going and waved his arms frantically on a couple of occasions in the second half to try and get the crowd on side. One of Tottenham's better players. 7

Ivan Perisic - Did not provide any threat at all. After a bright start to life at Tottenham he seems to have lost his way, and his lack of chemistry with Son must be a concern for Conte. 5.5

Dejan Kulusevski - Offered some bright moments down the right, but looks to be a little short of confidence. Put in a couple of decent crosses. Conte's decision to bring him off was booed by some home fans. 7

Heung-min Son - Has been so good for Tottenham over the years, but is a long way from his best this term. Milan coped with him and Perisic far too easily. 5.5

Harry Kane - Dropped deep regularly to get involved as his team-mates struggled to get the ball up to him. Tried a bizarre header
