Jurgen Klopp admitted he cannot understand why the BBC has suspended Gary Lineker from his duties on Match of the Day, branding the situation a 's***storm'.

The Liverpool boss, who was speaking after his side's disappointing 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday, will not be interviewed by the nation's flagship football show on Saturday, with pundits, commentators, managers and players refusing to appear in solidarity with Lineker.

The 62-year-old presenter was temporarily dropped as Match of the Day's presenter on Friday after the BBC decreed his 'Nazi' jibe tweet that compared the Home Office's immigration policy to 1930s Germany breached impartiality rules.

Unclear why the BBC would impose such stringent sanctions on Lineker for simply commenting in favour of human rights, Klopp told BT Sport after the match: 'That is the world we are living in, everybody is so concerned with doing things in the right manner. If you don't do that then you create a s***storm.

'I'm not native but I cannot see why you would ask someone to step back for saying that.

'But if I understand it right, this is about a message, an opinion, about human rights and that should be possible to say.

'What I don't understand is why everybody goes on Twitter and says something.

'If somebody asks you about your opinion, then you can say your opinion, but I don't understand the social media part of it.

'But I'm probably too old for that. So apart from that, no. If I got it right, there's no reason [to punish Lineker], for me.'
