sport news SPORTS AGENDA: Steven Gerrard to return to punditry role with Channel Four trends now

Steven Gerrard is set to be part of Channel Four's team for their coverage of England's European Championship qualifiers.

The former England captain has largely gone under the radar since he was sacked as Aston Villa manager in October after just 11 months in charge.

And, in what would be a coup for the broadcaster, who picked up the rights last year, 42-year-old Gerrard is ready to provide an authoritative voice.

An announcement is expected shortly, but Agenda understands the Liverpool legend will be joined by Queen of the Jungle and former Lionesses skipper Jill Scott, plus ex-West Ham and England forward Joe Cole.

Glazers ready to cash in

When the Glazer family announced their intention to sell or seek investment in Manchester United, there was cynicism over whether the Americans were serious.

However, following two weeks of visits from interested groups, word is that the club's owners are keen on relinquishing their asset, if the price is right.

United transformed the Jimmy Murphy Centre, usually used for press conferences and media work, into a summit room for the visits at their Carrington training complex.

The club's chefs prepared meals for those present while the press were forced to take a step back in time.

Instead of their usual venue, press conferences took place in the small room to the right of reception — in which Sir Alex Ferguson used to regularly dish out his rollickings.

Nesbitt can't party like he used to

The most important quality in a racegoer attending all four days of the Cheltenham Festival is stamina, and it seems actor James Nesbitt struggled to stay the course.

Nesbitt, 58, has spoken about partying hard with fellow cast members during the early days of Cold Feet, but it seems those days are behind him.

The co-owner of 2012 Ryanair Chase winner Riverside Theatre confessed on Gold Cup day: 'I am staying with Zara and Mike Tindall. Last night I went quite large so when we got back Zara sent me to my quarters and I was supposed to change for dinner.

'But I never made it, so I had 12 hours' sleep, which is why I'm quite fresh today. They didn't cook breakfast, but they ate breakfast with me. We had Dom Perignon 2010 at 10am.'

Burke looking to buck trend from where racing commentators earn their stripes

Not many racing commentators earned their stripes on the course first, but jockey Johnny Burke has revealed when the time comes to quit the saddle, he would love to be calling races at Cheltenham.

The 27-year-old, who had his first Festival winner with Love Envoi in last year's Mares' Novices' Hurdle, has already started using days off to hone his skills — and has called some races in Ireland.

'It's a niche that I've found I can do, so it's my retirement plan after riding,' he
