Fernando Alonso criticised the FIA for lacking common sense after he was stripped of third place moments after the podium celebrations — and then reinstated at 1am local time in Jeddah.
The Aston Martin veteran was farcically bumped down to fourth, with Mercedes’ George Russell briefly promoted.
In ludicrous scenes, Russell was hurried along from the paddock to the post-race press conference for the rostrum trio, 300 yards away, while Alonso, who thought he had just notched the 100th podium of his career, was scuttled off to the TV pen for also-rans.
