During the blistering 10-minute rant that followed Tottenham's limp 3-3 draw with Southampton, Conte poured scorn on his players, lambasting them as 'selfish' and undeserving of 'excuses', as well as the club's history. 'They don't want to play under pressure, they don't want to play under stress. It is easy in this way,' the Italian manager said. 'Tottenham's story is this. Twenty years there is the owner and they never won something but why?' But according to reports in The Telegraph, Conte spoke with chairman Daniel Levy, who was present at the match, after the explosive press conference and assured him that he had not targeted the club or its owners. Antonio Conte has assured his chairman that his criticisms did not extend to the club itself Daniel Levy is understood to be weighing up whether Conte should stay at the club or go As such, Levy is said to be discussing the matter with 'some of his closest confidents' and is yet to decide whether the manager has a future at the club. Should Conte be removed from the club, it is understood that Ryan Mason would once again be put in temporary charge at the north London club. Mason previously managed Spurs during the 2020/21 season whilst they hunted for a replacement for the dismissed Jose Mourinho, taking the helm for seven games including their Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. At the time, there was question over the logic of sacking Mourinho five days before Spurs' first final since their 2019 Champions League tie against Liverpool, and the team went on to lose 1-0. The embattled club currently sits fourth in the Premier League, but their position may yet be under fire by fifth-placed Newcastle and Liverpool, who have two games in hand. Brighton, who are seventh, but are level on points with Liverpool, have three games in hand against Tottenham. Due to the international break, Spurs will not play their next fixture until April 3, which will give Levy some time to deliberate whether to keep the mercurial manager or move on to switch up the atmosphere until the season's end. Conte's players may struggle to find their motivation after their manager's harsh critique Conte's players will be awaiting his decision with some interest after it was revealed that some of the Tottenham squad would be happy to see the back of their manager following his comments. Levy is said to be taking into account whether it will be possible for his manager to continue to motivate his team following the sharp outburst that directly criticised the players. Whilst the manager's concerns may have been privately accurate to a degree, it is possible that their public declaration could have diminished spirits in the dressing room. Conte's contract with Tottenham is due to expire at the end of the season. Share or comment on this article: All rights reserved for this news site (dailymail) and under his responsibility
