The AFLW great, who is one of the most respected commentators in the country, is also working as an assistant coach for the Cats this year. Seven regularly gives viewers a window into the sheds on gameday, but the Tigers objected to having an opposing coach having access to what they do behind the scenes. Carlton didn't have a problem with Pearce being in their rooms during round one, but it's understood other teams might have an issue with it, according to the Herald Sun. The AFLW icon has moved from her regular Friday night role to a position as Seven's Thursday night expert commentator so she can accommodate her coaching gig. Seven commentator Daisy Pearce's TV career hasn't been all smooth sailing, with Richmond barring her from their rooms because of her other work commitments Pearce, who is one of the most respected commentators in the country, is also working as an assistant coach for Geelong this year - and Richmond weren't keen on letting a rival see what they get up to behind the scenes Pearce was promoted to a primetime commentary spot last season at the expense of Wayne Carey. However, not everyone is a fan, as she was involved in a spat with ex-AFL legends Dermott Brereton and Rex Hunt last year, with the latter accusing Channel Seven of 'ruining the game' by allowing her to commentate. Pearce admitted at the time that the saga 'drained' her but the trailblazer is determined not to let it affect her 'enjoyment of the job'. 'Having your credibility questioned because you're a female isn't a new thing that I'm just starting to deal with. I'm pretty thick-skinned when it comes to that,' she said. 'I guess this is a little bit different and unusual in my opinion because another member of the AFL media fraternity both current in Derm and past in Rex have gone out of their way to give an opinion on who their favourite is. So that's different.' Pearce explained that she wasn't doing the role to be everyone's favourite commentator. 'I'm not all surprised that I'm not Dermott and Rex's favourite commentator,' she added. 'When I read their comments and have heard the spin offs from it, what I hear at the crux of it is that they feel seen and heard when they watch Wayne Carey — and that's understandable,' Pearce said. Carlton didn't have a problem with Pearce (pictured with the Cats) being in their rooms during round 1, but it's understood other teams might have an issue with it Pearce was promoted to a primetime commentary spot by Channel Seven last season at the expense of Wayne Carey 'I mean, they played in similar eras. They probably idolised the way each other play. They might have similar values and past lived experiences and therefore ways of seeing the game. 'So I'm not surprised or offended by that in one bit. But that is one way with which to look at the game and there are many, is what I'll say. 'So I'd say that whilst it might be ruining football for Rex, there might be people out there that can connect and engage with football better now that there is greater diversity in the broadcast team whether it'd be gender, race, background — whatever it is.' Pearce came in for harsh criticism of her commentary during the first game of the season, with some AFL fans still not willing to give the footy great a chance despite her obvious talent behind the microphone.
