Max Verstappen might look close to unbeatable at the Australian Grand Prix today - but funny things happen in racing and there are plenty of good value markets to keep punters interested.

The reigning world champion will start at the unbackable odds of $1.35 after predictably finishing on top in qualifying, with the Mercedes pair of George Russell ($9) and Lewis Hamilton ($11) rounding out the top three.

Also predictably, hometown boy Oscar Piastri and his unreliable McLaren could not make it out of Q1 - but fortunately for patriotic punters, there are still ways to support the increasingly popular 21-year-old.

Bet Right CEO Anthony Waller said cult Netflix hit Drive to Survive has driven a huge spike in interest Down Under, and that despite being next to no chance of winning the race, Aussie fans could still get behind their boy.

'Whilst Oscar is $501 to win the race, and potentially needing a Steve Bradbury moment to collect, we have created a suite of unique special betting markets around Oscar Piastri to allow everyone to play and support him,' he said.

The Aussie rookie will start at 16th on the grid, and given McLaren's huge issues to start the season - despite some brilliant driving at times from Piastri - him not finishing the race might be the best option.

One special allows those keen to support him to hedge their bets. For Piastri to finish in the points, or not finish at all, you can get $2.10; while in race match-ups, you can get $3.20 for the Aussie to finish ahead of teammate Lando Norris - something he did at the last GP in Saudi Arabia.

But let's be honest, the action is mainly up the front of the grid.

Something will need to go wrong for Verstappen not to win - though that is always an inherent possibility in the high-octane race.

The only value you'll find with the Dutchman is for him to do the Winner/Fastest Lap double ($2.10), and given the fact he still managed to still the bonus point in Jeddah despite finishing 15th, it's a salivating prospect.

What other value can punters draw from the race ahead of the 3pm start time?
