Dan Burn has admitted that Newcastle have 'always really disliked Manchester United' after a 2-0 victory over Erik ten Hag's side.

Goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson handed Eddie Howe's side a deserved three points, after they launched a barrage of attempts on David de Gea's goal.

The two clubs have enjoyed something of a feisty rivalry in the past, stretching back to the mid-1990 days of Kevin Keegan and Sir Alex Ferguson, while Alan Shearer and Roy Keane were known to have regular run-ins on the pitch.

With Newcastle climbing into a position of notoriety under Howe, that rivalry appears to have been reignited, with various Newcastle players admitting they were out for revenge having lost out in the League Cup final just over a month ago to the same opponent.

'It’s really special. For a long time, we’ve always disliked Manchester United. We’ve owed them one this season, so it was good to get the win today,' Burn said.
