sport news Chelsea: who should stay, who should go and who is playing for their Blues ... trends now

This week’s Champions League exit against Real Madrid has all but ended Chelsea’s season, allowing them to accelerate the process of sorting out their squad for 2023-24.

The Blues were dumped out of the European competition after a 2-0 defeat at home on Tuesday night compounded their loss in Madrid a week prior, with the exact same scoreline.

One issue that has been troubling Chelsea all season has been his side's bloated first-team squad.

However, that may no longer be the case as a number of the club's stars have been linked with a potential move away from west London in the summer.

And so, here, Mail Sport runs the rule over who should stay, who should go and who is playing for their Blues future.

GOALKEEPERS

Kepa Arrizabalaga - JURY'S OUT

Emerged as No 1 this season but questions about some of the goals conceded. Could be upgraded.

Edouard Mendy - GO

Lost his place due to injury and form and not happy with new contract offer. Would be no surprise if he chooses to move on.

Marcus Bettinelli - STAY

A trusted third choice and new contract signed recently.

DEFENDERS

Wesley Fofana - STAY

Mixed season, in part due to injuries, but very much part of Chelsea’s future.

Benoit Badiashile - STAY

Made an encouraging start and defence looked better with him in it but not being registered for Champions League disrupted his progress.

Kalidou Koulibaly - GO

Not lived up to billing. With sales needing to be made, could be one to sacrifice.

Trevoh Chalobah - JURY'S OUT

Can consider himself unlucky with lack of opportunities. Chelsea should keep him but would be forgiven for looking to exit.

Thiago Silva - STAY

Class act and a genuine leader. As long as he can still perform, Chelsea should keep him.

Defender Trevoh Chalobah could be on the Blues stars to leave the club in the coming months

Marc Cucurella - JURY'S OUT

Been a tough debut season at Chelsea on and off the pitch. Not justified fee but uncertain time to start
