Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner entered the transfer portal on Tuesday after competing for the starting spot.
He currently has three years of eligibility left and played in only three games last season, including the Gator Bowl win over South Carolina.
A decent performance in the game that saw him go 18 of 33 for 273 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions gave Buchner an early advantage in the race to be named next year's starter especially after Drew Pyne transferred to Arizona State in December.
That advantage seemed to dissipate when former Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman transferred to play for the Fighting Irish. During his five seasons at Wake Forrest Hartman threw for 12,967 yards and 110 touchdowns with 41 interceptions.
