sport news Who is Nathan Hicks? Ivan Toney's older cousin ALSO a betting offender as FA ... trends now
The FA on Friday revealed exactly why Ivan Toney has been banned from football for eight months, with the Brentford striker diagnosed as a gambling addict.
The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to 232 of the 262 betting charges brought by the FA last year, with the final outcome - a £50,000 fine and an eight-month ban - dished out earlier in the month.
In Friday's FA bombshell it was revealed that Toney placed over a dozen bets on his own team during a period of seven months between 2017 and 2018. He also punted on himself to score on multiple occasions, and used other people's accounts to place bets despite initially denying the allegations.
A key issue considered by the FA throughout was whether Toney knew that he was breaching FA rules on betting when the offences were committed. It was determined that Toney was aware at least since his time playing for Peterborough in 2018.
Additionally, it was noted that Toney's cousin, Nathan Hicks, was also charged with a breach of betting rules in 2017, so the Brentford striker must have known what he was doing was prohibited. But just who is Hicks? Mail Sport provides the information below.
