West Ham defender Kurt Zouma says times have been tough for both him and his family after a video of him kicking and slapping his cat went viral last year.

Footage emerged in February 2022 of Zouma - and his brother Yoan - abusing a cat in his kitchen, which eventually led to the pair being prosecuted by the RSPCA.

The Frenchman pleaded guilty to two counts under the Animal Welfare Act when he appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court in east London back in May last year.

As a result, Zouma was fined two weeks' wages worth £250,000 by West Ham and sentenced to 180 hours of community service.

West Ham pledged the fine would be handed to a number of animal charities, while Zouma apologised for his actions and promised to make it up to his fans.
