After the curtain closed on a disappointing campaign for Liverpool, questions were raised over what summer activity might ensue.

Reds fans were hopeful that they would bring in some fresh faces to help their struggles and it looks like their prayers have been answered.

Jurgen Klopp's side are closing in on the signing of Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, after the Argentine was pictured completing his medical.

And, with strong links to French midfield duo Khepren Thuram and Manu Kone, more activity can be expected.

So, here, Mail Sport has taken a look at the potential line-up that the Reds could field next season.

GOALKEEPER

Alisson

Was there any doubting the Brazilian place in this team? The 30-year-old picked up 14 Premier League clean sheets last year, in another impressive campaign.

He even managed to record one assist during the season, after picking out Mohamed Salah in their clash with City - who ended up scoring the winner.

There's been nothing to suggest that the Reds are searching for a new number one and with Caoimhin Kelleher unlikely to challenge, Alisson's place is safe.

DEFENDERS

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Although it was a season of ups and downs for the England international, there can be no denying his place within Liverpool's line-up next season.

The 24-year-old came under scrutiny for his defensive performances for Liverpool throughout the season but picked up his form towards the end of the year.

He capped off his campaign with a sensational free-kick strike that nestled into the top corner during their 3-0 trip to Leicester last month.

Virgil van Dijk

Similarly to Alexander-Arnold, the 2022-23 campaign will not be looked back on fondly by Virgil van Dijk.

Prior to the campaign's start, the Netherlands international had seemed unbeatable at the back and a key catalyst to his club's success.

However, a disappointing campaign saw the 31-year-old admit that he had fallen below expectations and deserved the criticism that was aimed his way.

Despite all of his struggles last year, there can be no displacing the former Southampton and Celtic central defender.

Ibrahima Konate

The Frenchman did well to earn a place in the Liverpool first-team last season after displacing the regular start in Joel Matip.

After picking up seven clean sheets from his 18 Premier League appearances, the 24-year-old has proved that he is a top talent in defence.

At such a young age, there is a likelihood that the defender will only get better from here on out and will be key for Jurgen Klopp.

Andrew Robertson

While Liverpool may have struggled in their domestic campaigns, Andrew Robertson can look back on his season with pride.

The Scottish international managed to provide eight assists for his side - two less than he mustered last term
