Spain laid down a marker in their opening World Cup match by cruising to a 3-0 win over Costa Rica in which they had 46 shots.
The Spaniards have been at war with their federation for the last 12 months after 15 players withdrew from national team duty following a labour dispute, and are still missing a few stars.
But they justified their status as one of the tournament favourites by crushing their Central American opponents on Friday.
