When Hinata Miyazawa and Geyse walked into Manchester United this summer they found themselves with a few things to learn quickly: it rains a lot, the food is different to what they are used to, and Ella Toone speaks incredibly fast.

'They are struggling to understand a lot of English, and especially my English!' Toone tells Mail Sport.

'Everyone who comes from abroad always says I'm the hardest to understand so I've started talking slower for them to understand me more.

'I've told them definitely don't get used to the sunny weather in Manchester because we don't get a lot of it! It's a lot of rain and a lot of wind.'

The new arrivals have been appointed on-the-ground translators to ease their acclimatisation to Marc Skinner's squad. As for understanding Toone, those studies could take some time.

But one thing that won't have taken either woman long to realise is that Toone loves to play. Whether that be in training, a kickabout with family, in the Women's Super League, for England. Play, play, play, play, play, if Toone had her way.

And so when Toone was named on the bench to start United's recent 1-1 draw against Leicester City - the first time she'd been taken out of the starting XI and placed on the sidelines since October 2020 - it was headline news.

Rarely do those breaks come. After England lost in the World Cup final to Spain Toone had a few weeks off and she allowed herself to eat a McDonalds, chill at home and 'feel like a normal person' again. 

But with the season now back underway, ask Toone to play everyday and she would.

Asked how she continually finds the energy to play so many games - she featured in 38 for club and country last season - Toone said: 'My love for football… I get angry when I get days off in the week!
