The NRL has been forced into an 11th-hour change to its round one schedule for 2024 after broadcast partners Channel Nine reportedly slammed the Newcastle Knights and Canberra Raiders kicking off the Australian matches for the round.   

The preliminary round-one schedule was leaked ahead of the planned official announcement on Monday, and key stakeholders weren't happy with what they saw.

Nine executives expressed displeasure over the Newcastle v Canberra match being scheduled for Thursday night on free-to-air TV. 

The NRL had scheduled the Raiders and Knights to kick off the matches in Australia for round one next year - but Channel Nine executives reportedly had other ideas
