Rob Howley declared it’s ‘great to be back’ and welcomed the ‘formidable’ challenge of taking on defending Six Nations champions Ireland on Saturday.

Howley is now back involved with Wales after serving a well-publicised ban for betting. His first campaign since returning to the national side under head coach Warren Gatland’s guidance has begun with back-to-back defeats to Scotland and England. Wales are starting afresh. Gatland is giving youth its chance.

He named a side for Ireland with just the one change from the one which was beaten 16-14 by England at Twickenham. Sam Costelow returns to start at fly-half.

‘It’s great to be back. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last four or five weeks,’ Howley said. ‘I’m so grateful to the coaches and Warren in particular for bringing me back into the fold.

‘The public have been fantastic in terms of what they’ve said to me. Obviously, there’s a disappointment with the last couple of games.
