Merseyside Police will place extra focus on Manchester City’s bus route into Anfield following a spate of attacks on opposition coaches.

Mail Sport understands that Pep Guardiola and his side will take the usual route to Liverpool’s ground for Sunday’s title showdown.

On previous occasions their transport has been pelted with missiles launched by home supporters as part of a feisty so-called ‘welcome’ to Anfield.

And in December Manchester United’s bus was hit and damaged by a glass cider bottle as Eric ten Hag’s man made their way to the stadium ahead of a 0-0 draw.

Liverpool strongly condemned the attack, a video of which was posted online. Police later arrested a 23-year-old man from the Everton area.
