Graeme Souness turned down the chance to sign Eric Cantona for Liverpool, before he went on to become a Manchester United icon, according to a new interview.
Cantona became a hero for the Red Devils in his No. 7 shirt, which paved the way for other legends in the same number, including David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But a French icon pitched Souness the idea of signing Cantona in November 1991 while he was at the helm at Anfield, only for the Liverpool boss to reject a move for the man, who was playing at Nimes at the time.
Cantona's bad boy reputation proceeded him, with Souness weary of taking on a player who had kung-fu kicked a Nantes player whilst on Auxerre's books at the start of his career.
In a podcast alongside Jim White, Souness told talkSPORT: 'I'll tell you a story about Eric Cantona. I'm manager of Liverpool and we play Auxerre in the UEFA Cup.
