Latrell Mitchell has called for the NRL to come down extremely hard on Spencer Leniu if he's found guilty of an alleged racial slur against Ezra Mam during the season opener in Las Vegas on Sunday.
On Monday, the NRL's match review committee charged the 23-year-old Roosters forward with contrary conduct and referred him straight to the NRL Judiciary after Mam alleged the Roosters star called him a 'monkey'.
Rather than flat-out deny the accusation, Leniu told Triple M after the game: 'I think it's all fun and games when we're on the field. That's it.'
When pressed further on whether he was worried about the potential fallout, Leniu replied: 'Not worried at all'.
Commentator Andrew Voss speculated on SEN radio that Leniu could be out for a substantial chunk of the season.
Latrell Mitchell wants Spencer Leniu banned for more than 12 weeks if found guilty
Spencer Leniu has been referred straight to the NRL Judiciary over an alleged racial slur to Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam in Sunday's opener in Las Vegas
'I reckon half the season might be the sentence, I think it's minimum eight weeks, it could be 12 but they may go more,' Voss said.
Mitchell responded by posting Voss's remark on his Instagram story on Tuesday morning and adding: 'And some...'
Should the Souths star get his wish, Leniu would be rubbed out of the game for approximately half the season.
The alleged incident sparked a wave of support for Mam, with Mitchell leading the way on Sunday night. He urged the NRL to 'deal with this s***', having been the victim of racist abuse from a fan last year.
