Donald Trump has criticized the Dolan family, which owns Cleveland's baseball team, for changing its name from the Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians.

The GOP 2024 Presidential candidate went on a short rant about the team's name change, which was approved just a month before he left office in January 2021, while speaking to voters at his most recent electoral campaign rally in Dayton, Ohio on Saturday.

'I like sports and I like tradition. So you have a team called the Cleveland Indians. Indians. They're Indians. And they took the team Cleveland Indians and made it to the Cleveland Guardians. Almost like they're in charge of a trust fund' the 77-year-old, 45th U.S. President said at first before repeating the team's name again in total disbelief.

He then aimed a dig at Matt Dolan, who represents Ohio's 24th district in the state's Senate and once ran as the only Republican candidate to not fully support Trump during the 2022 U.S. Senate election in Ohio. Dolan also owns a partial stake in the Guardians.

'And my attitude is anybody that changes the name of the Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians should not be a senator. Should not be a governor, Trump said, adding: 'I don't know Matt Dolan, but just know that he's the guy that I guess owns the team in some form and he was in charge of changing the name.'
