Past players and fans alike have slammed the NRL for not taking action against South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell for his x-rated interview on live radio.

The Rabbitohs fullback spoke with radio network Triple M following his side's loss to the Brisbane Broncos last Thursday night - the club's second defeat to open the season.

'I don't care if I'm swearing, boys,' he said in the interview.

'Honestly f***, it was s***, the first bit, it was a hard game, f***.

'Honestly [the Broncos] are big boys, they're competitors, you wonder why they came runners-up last year, so f***, we can build on that.'

Triple M host Dan Ginnane quickly shut down the interview, saying:  'All right, all right, ay, ay, ay, thank you, Latrell.

'You can let one or two profanities go but this was too much.

'We had to cut it. It was very odd and it wasn't doing Latrell any favours.'

The interview attracted the attention of the NRL, with chief executive Andrew Abdo to speak to the Souths star and club boss Blake Solly.

But there will be no breach notice or sanction against Mitchell

'We encourage players to be themselves and be authentic,' Abdo said over the weekend.

'However, they also know they are professionals and role models which means setting an example. When speaking to fans via media interviews, we have a responsibility to be respectful.'

The NRL's stance angered many fans and experts, with commentator Mark Levy questioning the league on its handling of the interview.

'WHAT!!!!! So the NRL is happy for a 'role model' in our game to drop 5 f-bombs while acknowledging his foul language and making no apologies for it in a radio IV,' he posted.
