Joe Cole has urged Chelsea's hierarchy to integrate more experienced players into their squad and pointed to Real Madrid duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as two players the Blues should look to sign. 

The west London outfit have adopted a new transfer policy since the arrival of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, with their new owners spending over £1billion to refresh the squad and bring in more younger players. 

But their strategy is yet to pay off. Despite reaching the final of the EFL Cup and the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Chelsea have fallen to 11th in the Premier League standings after what's been a difficult season in the league for Mauricio Pochettino's side. 

Cole will play at Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2024, which will be hosted at Stamford Bridge, but ahead of the match, he said "talkSPORT that the Blues needed to sign more players of a similar experience level to their key defender Thiago Silva

‘I’d be looking to maybe bring in some experienced players to set the tone,' he said, reflecting on what Pochettino can do to improve his squad. 

The German, who is now aged 34, has won countless trophies, including a World Cup title

Modric has also been recognised for his brilliant career in football, having been awarded the Ballon d'Or in 2018
